“Welcome to the FLYTRAP” – CJ Fly

CJ Fly is a 23-year old emcee born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Raised by his Jamaican father and Barbadian mother as an only child, CJ quickly learned to rely on himself for drive and inspiration. He began writing poetry in the fourth grade and by the seventh grade, was rapping. He attended Edward R. Murrow High School for Communication Arts where he met Joey Bada$$, Powers Pleasant and Capital STEEZ. The four would spend their school days cyphering in the auditorium and by 2011 had officially formed Progressive Era (Pro Era), a Brooklyn-based hip-hop collective.

After the release of Pro Era’s The Secc$ Tape in 2012, CJ was featured on and A&R’d Joey Bada$$’ solo debut, 1999, alongside music industry veteran Jonny Shipes and received recognition for his reputable storytelling on tracks like “Hardknock” and “Don’t Front.” The crew followed-up with releases PEEP: The aPROcalypse and The Shift which continued to garner buzz for the collective.

In October of 2013 CJ released his debut project, Thee Way Eye See It, receiving acclaim from fans, critics and music aficionados worldwide. Taking time to craft his next release, CJ will release his first commercial full-length album this winter titled FLYTRAP.

First single “Now You Know,” out now, sets the tone for FLYTRAP letting listeners know this isn’t going to be the typical CJ Fly offering. Premiering on Billboard.com, the single has garnered almost half a million plays on Soundcloud. The 14-track LP is a personal album. CJ makes his producer debut on “Always,” an ode to his late grandfather who makes an appearance on the record too. The album sees additional production from DF (Travis Scott), SmokeyGotBeatz (Jayrock & Kendrick Lamar), Kirk Knight of Pro Era and Hannibal King (Mac Miller).

CJ has established himself with his indisputable charm and lyrical imagery as a prominent artist of his generation. As he gears up for the release of FLYTRAP he continues working towards his goal of one day receiving accolades for his work and making history.
